Questions, answered.
Everything you might wonder about setting up HearthIQ, keeping your home's details safe, and getting answers when you need them.
Getting started
What exactly is HearthIQ?
HearthIQ is a private home knowledge app. You snap a photo of anything in your home — an appliance, a manual, a warranty card, a paint can — and it files the details away for you. Later, when something breaks or you forget a spec, you just ask in plain language and get the answer from your own home's records.
Do I need any special equipment?
No — just your phone. There's nothing to install in your home, no hub, and no smart-device requirement. If you can take a photo, you can use HearthIQ.
How long does setup take?
A couple of minutes to create your home. Most people add things gradually — scan a new appliance the day it arrives, or photograph a manual when you dig it out. There's no big upfront data-entry chore. See how it works for the full flow.
Scanning & saving
What can I scan?
Appliances and their model plates, printed manuals, warranty cards, receipts, paint colors and finishes, filter sizes, serial numbers, HVAC labels — pretty much any physical thing in your home that carries useful information. HearthIQ reads the text and details for you.
Can it read handwritten notes?
Often, yes. Clear handwriting on a receipt or a note taped to the water heater usually comes through fine. Very messy or faint writing may need a quick manual touch-up, which you can do right in the app.
Where is everything stored?
In your private home library, tied to your account and encrypted. Only you — and anyone you explicitly invite to your home — can see it. More on that in the Privacy & data section below.
Asking HearthIQ
What kinds of questions can I ask?
Things like "What filter does my fridge take?", "When does the dishwasher warranty run out?", or "What paint is in the living room?" HearthIQ answers from what you've saved, so the answers are specific to your home — not generic web results.
Does it work offline?
You can browse everything you've already saved offline. Scanning new items and asking questions needs a connection so HearthIQ can read the images and understand what you're asking.
How accurate are the answers?
Because answers come straight from your own scanned records, they're as accurate as what you've saved. Every answer links back to the source photo or document, so you can always tap through and check for yourself.
Plans & billing
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan covers one home with room to scan and ask, so you can get a real feel for it before deciding to upgrade. See the full breakdown on the pricing page.
Can I cancel anytime?
Anytime, in a couple of taps — no phone calls, no retention maze. If you cancel a paid plan, you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for.
Do you have plans for property managers?
Yes — managers and hosts can run multiple homes under one account with shared access for their team. Take a look at who it's for, or get in touch to talk through a larger portfolio.
Privacy & data
Who can see my home's information?
Only you, and anyone you deliberately invite into your home. Your home library is private by default and encrypted. Nobody on our team browses your data.
Do you sell my data?
No. We don't sell your data and we don't run ads against it. HearthIQ is paid for by the people who use it, not by advertisers — so your home's details stay your business.
What happens if I delete my account?
Your home library and everything in it is permanently removed. Deletion is final and complete — no shadow copies left behind. If you ever want it done and confirmed, reach out and we'll help.
