Reading a model & serial number — and why it matters
That little sticker on the back of your appliance is the single most useful piece of information about it — and the one most people never write down.
Model vs. serial
The model number tells you what the appliance is — which manual, which parts, which filters fit. The serial number tells you which specific unit you own, and often encodes the month and year it was built, which sets your warranty clock.
Where to find them
Look for a metal or paper label inside the door, behind or beneath the unit, or along a bottom edge. Fridges hide theirs inside near the crisper; washers and dryers usually wear theirs on the door frame.
Let the camera do the reading
Squinting at tiny type and transcribing it by hand is where mistakes creep in. Scan the label instead — HearthIQ pulls the numbers, matches the model, and files it against the right appliance automatically.
